Which Sliding Doors Suit a Magnetic Lock?
Most manual sliding doors can take an EM lock. What matters is not the door material but whether there is a solid, flat place on the fixed frame for the magnet and a matching spot on the leaf for the armature plate, so the two close together squarely.
Magnetic Lock for Sliding Glass Door
sliding glass door magnetic lock · magnetic lock for sliding glass door
On framed sliding glass, the armature plate fixes to the leaf frame. On a frameless glass panel there is nothing to screw into, so the plate needs suitable mounting hardware on the glass. Send us a photo and we will confirm the parts.
Aluminium Sliding Door
magnetic door lock for sliding door · aluminium sliding door EM lock
Aluminium profiles usually give a straight, rigid face for the lock and plate. Slim sections may need a spacer or bracket so the plate sits fully on the magnet face.
Wooden Sliding Door
wooden sliding door magnetic lock
Solid timber leaves give a firm fixing for the armature plate. On hollow-core or veneered leaves, the fixing point needs to be solid enough to resist the pull when someone tries the door.
Two-Leaf (Bi-Parting) Sliding Door
double sliding door EM lock
Each leaf has to be held on its own, and the layout depends on where the leaves meet. We check from photos whether two single locks or a double-door lock suits the opening.
Where sliding door EM locks are used
Office Partitions & Meeting Rooms
Sliding glass partitions on meeting rooms, HR and finance offices, and storerooms. A keypad or card reader outside and an exit button inside is the usual setup.
Shopfronts & Retail
Manual sliding shopfronts and back-of-house doors that need to lock after hours and release for staff with a PIN, card or fingerprint.
Balcony & Villa Sliding Doors
Residential sliding doors to balconies, terraces and garden rooms. LOKIZ EM lock specs list 0–90% non-condensing humidity and −20 °C to +55 °C operation, so tell us if the door is exposed to weather. Because the lock releases on power loss, ask about backup power if the door must stay secure in an outage.
How It Is Mounted
Sliding Door Magnetic Lock Installation — How It Is Mounted
On a hinged door the magnet usually sits under the head frame and the door swings onto it. A sliding leaf moves sideways instead, so the magnet has to face the direction of travel. The lock body goes on a part of the opening that never moves — the jamb the leaf closes against, or the header above it — and the armature plate goes on the moving leaf so the two meet face-to-face when the door is shut.
Holding force depends on full, flat contact. If the plate meets the magnet at an angle, covers only part of the magnet face, or stops short because the leaf does not slide fully home, the lock holds much less than its rating. That is why a good sliding door magnetic lock installation starts with the track, rollers and end stop, not the lock.
Where the frame or leaf does not give a flat, solid face in the right position — common on slim aluminium sections and frameless glass — a bracket or spacer is used to line the parts up. A useful side effect of the layout: only the magnet needs power, so all cabling stays in the fixed frame and nothing is wired to the sliding panel.
Check the door first
The leaf must slide fully home to the same position every time. Worn rollers, a loose track or a missing end stop will leave a gap between plate and magnet.
Lock body on the fixed frame
Fix the electromagnet to the jamb the leaf closes against, or to the header above it, with the magnet face square to the direction the door slides.
Armature plate on the moving leaf
Fix the plate to the leading edge or top of the sliding leaf so it lands flat and centred on the magnet face when the door is closed.
Bracket only where needed
If the frame or leaf does not offer a flat, solid face in the right position, a bracket or spacer brings the two parts together face-to-face.
Wire, then test
Connect the power supply, reader or keypad, exit button and fire-alarm release. Test that the door holds, releases from the exit button, and releases when power is cut.

Kit Checklist
What You Need for a Sliding Door Access Control Kit
A magnetic lock on its own only holds the door. To control who can open it, you need the parts below. LOKIZ can supply the full set together so the voltages and contacts match.

- 01
Electromagnetic lock
Fixed to the jamb or header. A single sliding leaf normally takes one single-door lock; LOKIZ single-door EM locks are rated 280 kg (600 lbs).
Magnetic locks → - 02
Armature plate
The steel plate that mounts on the moving leaf. It needs no wiring, so no cable runs to the sliding panel. Plate size is listed on each lock page.

Safety
Sliding Door EM Lock Safety: Fail-Safe Release
EM locks are fail-safe: they hold only while powered and release as soon as power is removed. That makes them a good fit for doors on escape routes — provided people inside can always get out.
- Fit an exit button or touchless sensor on the inside so no credential is needed to leave.
- Add a break-glass emergency release as a manual backup.
- Connect the lock power to the building fire alarm so the door releases when the alarm activates.
- Check the requirements that apply to your building with your fit-out contractor or consultant before installation.
Automatic Doors
Automatic (Motorised) Sliding Doors
Everything above applies to manual sliding doors. A motorised sliding door is driven by an operator with its own controller, and adding a magnetic lock usually means integrating the lock with that operator — so the motor does not try to open a locked door and the door still releases correctly in an emergency.
What is possible depends on the operator make and its settings. Please contact LOKIZ with the door brand and model, or a photo of the operator label, before ordering a lock.

FAQ
Sliding Door Magnetic Lock — FAQ
Can a sliding door magnetic lock be fitted to a sliding glass door?
Yes. A sliding door magnetic lock works on sliding glass doors as long as the lock body can be fixed to the frame and the armature plate can be fixed to the glass leaf so the two meet flat when the door is closed. On framed glass the plate usually goes on the leaf frame; a frameless glass panel needs suitable mounting hardware to carry the plate. Send LOKIZ a photo of the door and we will confirm the parts before you order.
Where is the magnetic lock mounted on a sliding door?
The electromagnet goes on the fixed part of the opening — usually the jamb the leaf closes against, or the header above it — and the armature plate goes on the moving leaf, positioned so it lands face-to-face on the magnet when the door is fully closed. Only the magnet needs power, so the cable stays in the fixed frame and nothing is wired to the sliding panel.
Which LOKIZ EM lock should I use for a sliding door?
For a single sliding leaf, the LK-M280 280KG Single Door EM Lock (280 kg / 600 lbs) is listed as suitable for sliding doors. The LK-M280-5T and LK-M280-7T have the same 280 kg (600 lbs) holding force and add a red and green LED status indicator. For two-leaf sliding doors, ask us to check whether two single locks or the LK-M280D-5T double door lock (280 kg / 600 lbs per leaf) suits the layout.
Can I add a magnetic lock to an automatic sliding door?
Usually only by integrating it with the door operator. A motorised sliding door has its own controller, and the lock and operator have to work together so the motor does not drive against a locked door and the door still releases in an emergency. This depends on the operator make and its settings, so contact LOKIZ with the details before buying a lock.
Is a sliding door EM lock safe in a power cut or fire?
EM locks are fail-safe: they release when power is removed, so a power cut unlocks the door. For safe exit, pair the lock with an exit button on the inside, an emergency break-glass release, and a connection to the building fire alarm so the lock drops power when the alarm activates. Check the requirements that apply to your building with your fit-out contractor or consultant.
How much does a sliding door magnetic lock cost in Dubai?
An EM lock costs AED 120–400 per unit and single-door installation is AED 350–700. A complete RFID single-door kit (reader, EM lock, exit button, power supply) is AED 500–1,200, and a fingerprint single-door kit is AED 1,200–2,500. All prices exclude 5% VAT; your quote depends on the door, mounting hardware and cabling.
