How It Works
Electromagnetic Lock for Glass Door — How It Works
A magnetic lock for glass door (also called an electromagnetic lock for glass door or em lock for glass door) consists of two components: an electromagnet body that mounts on the door frame, and a steel armature plate that mounts on the door itself.
When electrical current flows through the electromagnet, it pulls the armature plate with up to 280 kg or 600 kg of holding force — locking the door securely. When the access controller grants access (via fingerprint, RFID card, or PIN), it cuts power to the magnet and the door releases freely.
For glass doors, mounting brackets — typically a Z-bracket or ZL-bracket — bridge the gap between the glass panel edge and the electromagnet body, allowing secure installation without drilling through the glass.
EM Lock Body — Door Frame
The electromagnet body is surface-mounted or recessed into the door frame header (top frame). Requires a 12V or 24V DC power supply.
Armature Plate — Glass Door
For frameless glass doors, a Z-bracket is glued or clamped to the top edge of the glass. The armature plate bolts to the Z-bracket, not the glass itself.
Access Controller
A fingerprint reader, RFID card reader, or keypad is installed beside the door. The controller signals the lock to release when credentials are valid.
Exit Button
A push-to-exit button or touchless sensor is installed inside the door so occupants can exit freely without credentials.
Fire Alarm Integration
The EM lock is wired to the fire alarm panel. In a fire, all glass door locks release automatically — compliant with UAE Civil Defence requirements.

Double Glass Door

Two-leaf glass doors (e.g., main office entrances) use a double-door EM lock. Both leaves lock simultaneously. Requires a 600 kg or dual-280 kg configuration.

FAQ
Magnetic Lock for Glass Door — FAQ
Can you install a magnetic lock on a glass door?
Yes. EM locks are installed on glass doors using Z-brackets or ZL-brackets that clamp to the glass top edge. The magnet body mounts on the frame — no drilling through glass required. LOKIZ supplies complete glass door EM lock kits and provides installation across Dubai and UAE.
What is the best electromagnetic lock for a frameless glass door?
The LOKIZ LK-M280-5T (280 kg) with a Z-bracket is the most widely used for frameless glass doors in Dubai offices. For heavier or external-facing glass doors, the 600 kg variant is recommended. LOKIZ can advise the right configuration from a photo of your door.
What brackets are needed for a glass door EM lock?
Frameless glass doors need a Z-bracket or ZL-bracket to mount the armature plate to the glass edge. Framed glass doors (aluminium or wood frame) often need no bracket — the armature plate mounts directly to the frame face. Inward-opening glass doors may need an L-bracket to offset the lock body. LOKIZ supplies all bracket types.
Can an electromagnetic lock be used on a sliding glass door?
Yes. The EM lock body mounts at the top of the sliding door track frame. The armature plate is fixed to the sliding glass panel. As the door slides shut, the magnet engages the armature. An exit sensor releases the lock when exiting. LOKIZ provides sliding door EM lock kits and installation.
What holding force do I need for a glass door?
For standard interior frameless glass office doors: 280 kg (600 lbs) is sufficient. For main entrance glass doors, heavy glass panels, or external doors: 600 kg (1,200 lbs) provides stronger security. Double glass doors use a double-door 280 kg configuration.
Does the EM lock release during a fire alarm?
Yes. EM locks are fail-safe — they release automatically when power is cut. The fire alarm panel cuts power to all connected EM locks, releasing all glass doors for evacuation. This meets UAE Civil Defence requirements. LOKIZ integrates EM locks with all major fire alarm brands.
Do you supply and install magnetic locks for glass doors across Dubai?
Yes. LOKIZ supplies and installs glass door electromagnetic locks across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and all UAE emirates. Same-day quotes via WhatsApp (+971 52 544 4615).
